FAQ
How much does counseling cost?
Our counselors set their fees based on their training and years of experience. You may discuss your fee and any special circumstances with your counselor. We accept cash, checks, or major credit cards.
What makes your counseling Christian?
There is no agreed upon definition of Christian counseling. We are a group of Christians with a variety of training who feel called to offer our professional services to help people grow emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. We are Christian counselors in that we personally are followers of Christ who use the best counseling practices from any source while relying on our understanding of humans as revealed in the Bible. We believe that all truth is God’s truth, so we are free to learn from anyone who, through God’s common grace and the revelation of Himself in creation, works to understand God’s creation. We also know that there are many ideas in the mental health fields that are antithetical to Christian belief. We work hard as a team to test these ideas from the standpoint of Christian conviction.
What makes Life Connections different from other Christian counseling centers?
1. All clinical staff are well-trained and licensed by the State of Florida. As a result we are aware of and often trained in the latest methods from the science of psychology. 2. Each clinical team member engages in our weekly group consultation meeting to maintain high accountability. We believe that iron sharpens iron with professional consultation (Proverbs 27:17). 3. We work as a team, which also keeps accountability high and burn-out low; counselors who work in solo practices often feel overwhelmed and disconnected and are statistically more likely to make ethical mistakes or suffer burn-out. 4. We are all involved in positions of ministry in our local churches and do our part to “exercise” or “work out at” our relationship with God, so we understand how issues of faith get worked out in life.
How long does counseling take?
The length of time you see a counselor depends on many factors. The most important factor is your own history. If you have a history of significant relational trauma, such a physical or sexual abuse, you can expect to spend a year or more in counseling. The same is true if you grew up in a family with alcohol or drug use. If you do not have significant trauma in your life, and little substance abuse in your family, you can expect an average of 10 sessions.
